Biography
Dr. Reitzes specializes in antitrust and regulatory economics. A former Federal Trade Commission (FTC) economist, he has provided expert economic analyses in litigation and regulatory proceedings in the United States, Canada, Europe, Latin America, and Australia.
His antitrust experience includes extensive work in matters of alleged price fixing affecting industries as diverse as carpet, packaging, vitamins, and ocean shipping, among others. He has offered economic assessments of the competitive impacts of horizontal and vertical mergers in presentations to the FTC and the U.S. Department of Justice. In addition, he has submitted several economic analyses pursuant to antitrust immunity filings by airline alliances, including the recent oneworld alliance involving American Airlines, British Airways, and Iberia.
Dr. Reitzes also has substantial involvement in competition and regulatory matters affecting the energy and telecommunications sectors, resulting in testimony and written expert reports submitted to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, the Federal Communications Commission, and several state public service commissions. He has been the independent manager of competitive procurements undertaken by electric power companies, including recent procurements of renewable energy credits, and has been involved in auction design processes.
In addition to representing private sector clients, Dr. Reitzes has provided expert consulting services to the Competition Bureau of the Government of Canada, the Directorate General for Competition of the European Union, and the World Bank. He has authored several articles on firm strategies with respect to pricing, quality, R&D investment, and merger behavior, published in leading economic and legal journals such as the ABA Antitrust Law Journal, Antitrust Bulletin, International Economic Review, Journal of International Economics, Journal of Regulatory Economics, Review of Network Economics, and the Journal of Law, Economics, and Organization.
