Ahmad Faruqui to Participate in National Regulatory Research Institute Teleseminar on Combined Heat and Power

Brattle principal Ahmad Faruqui has been selected as a panelist for the upcoming National Regulatory Research Institute (NRRI) teleseminar, “The Prospects for Combined Heat and Power and the Role of State Utility Commissions," taking place on August 27, 2014 at 2:00pm EST.

The seminar will discuss combined heat and power (CHP) or cogeneration, an integrated energy technology that produces both electricity and useful thermal energy with a single source of fuel. While growth of CHP was limited in its early years from 2005-2010, some states have more recently begun to establish special incentives for CHP technologies with renewable energy and other clean energy sources.

Dr. Faruqui will participate in a discussion on the role of state utility commissions and CHP. The panel will address the prospects for cogeneration and the obstacles for its development. The panel will also discuss whether CHP technologies are socially desirable, and whether they are able to compete on a “level playing field” with other generation technologies.
