Brattle Economists to Lead Webinar on FCC Incentive Auction Rules

Brattle principal Coleman Bazelon and associate Giulia McHenry will be presenting during the upcoming SNL Knowledge Center webinar, “FCC Incentive Auction Rules: Estimating Clearing Prices and Policy Impacts,” taking place Wednesday, February 27, 2013 from 1:30pm – 3:00pm EST.

In order to successfully clear the full 120 MHz of spectrum identified by Congress and set aside $9 billion for Public Safety and broadcaster relocation expenses, the upcoming Federal Communications Commission (FCC) incentive auction must attract substantial participation by broadcasters, and ensure that the forward auction realizes market prices. Regardless of the specific rules adopted by the FCC, participating in this auction will be complicated, and understanding these rules will be critical to maximizing participation and benefits to both reverse and forward auction participants.

This session will offer guidance on nearly all aspects of the upcoming FCC incentive auctions, including: drivers of likely market clearing prices in both the reverse auction, identifying pivotal auction rules, and key developments to watch for as the rules are developed.
