Brattle Principal Bill Zarakas Presents on the Future of Utilities at Advanced Energy Conference 2013

Brattle principal Bill Zarakas recently spoke on the outlook of the utility industry at the Advanced Energy 2013 conference, which took place April 30 through May 1, 2013 in New York, NY. Hosted by the Advanced Energy Center at Stony Brook University, the organization’s annual event is dedicated to the advancement of green technology and clean energy. The conference program featured panel sessions led by industry leaders, academics, and government officials that addressed several of the biggest challenges currently facing the country in the area of clean energy technology and development. Mr. Zarakas presented during the panel session, “The Utility of the Future: Distributed or Not?” His presentation outlined and discussed some of the key factors impacting the path of T&D utilities going forward, especially with respect to their selection of business model and he overarching regulatory framework of utilities. These factors include declining growth rates, energy efficiency, ongoing investment requirements, distributed generation, and new services.
