Brattle Principals Judy Chang and Hannes Pfeifenberger to Present at Alberta Power Symposium

Brattle principals Judy Chang and Hannes Pfeifenberger have been invited to present at the Alberta Power Symposium, taking place September 24-25, 2013 in Calgary, Alberta.

Hosted by The Canadian Institute’s Energy Group, the two-day forum will explore both the challenges and opportunities facing Alberta’s evolving power sector. Panel sessions will address how to find effective solutions to such issues as integrating renewables into a competitive market, cleaning up Alberta’s global image, replacing retired coal-fired plants, and navigating transmission expansion complexities.

Ms. Chang will speak during the panel session, “Assessing and Understanding the Implications of Decommissioning Traditional Coal-Fired Plants.” The session will discuss the current state of coal plants under recent regulatory changes, the likelihood that coal decommissioning will occur, the impact of coal’s retirement on transmission, as well as viable alternative energy sources.

Mr. Pfeifenberger will present on “Examining Hydroelectricity’s Potential Role in the Alberta Market.” The panel session will take a closer look at the current proposed hydro projects in Alberta, including their estimated amount of potential energy output, the role of the government in these projects, the inherent investment risks, and the role of capacity payments.
