Brattle Senior Consultant Shaun Ledgerwood Selected to Present at 31st USAEE/IAEE North American Conference

Brattle senior consultant Shaun Ledgerwood has been selected to present at the 31st USAEE/IAEE North American Conference, “Transition to a Sustainable Energy Era: Opportunities & Challenges,” taking place November 4-7, 2012 in Austin, TX. The conference will address the concerns of sustaining global long-term energy supply, demand, and diversity, due to growing energy demand in emerging economies and increased awareness of environmental issues. Conference participants will discuss how to guide the transition to energy sustainability, as well as to what extent the transition will be determined by drivers such as public and private investment, government and environmental policy, technological innovation, and research and development funding. The role of conventional and non-conventional fossil fuels, renewable energy resources, and energy efficiency in the transition to energy sustainability will also be addressed. Dr. Ledgerwood will present during a concurrent session on a recent paper he co-authored with Brattle principal Hannes Pfeifenberger. The paper, “Using Virtual Bids to Manipulate the Value of Financial Transmission Rights,” presents an economic model that distinguishes between legitimate market participation that increases overall market efficiency and manipulative behavior that distorts markets and reduces efficiency.
