Eliana Garcés to Participate in American Antitrust Institute Roundtable on Competition and Digital Platforms

Brattle Principal Eliana Garcés will participate in the upcoming American Antitrust Institute (AAI) roundtable event, “Applying the Antitrust Laws to Digital Platforms,” taking place on March 22, 2018 in Washington, DC.

Questions about the efficacy of antitrust laws in overseeing large digital platforms, which can be centered on advertising, e-commerce, and digital goods, among others, have come to the forefront of public policy dialogue. While some advocates argue that antitrust laws are able to address anticompetitive conduct or mergers that may arise in digital markets, others question whether the existing laws and standards for consumer welfare are capable of addressing anticompetitive behavior.

Bringing together competition law experts from government, industry, academia, and the public interest community, the roundtable event will address the growth of digital platforms by exploring the central question: “What does an analysis of digital platforms under the antitrust laws look like?”

Dr. Garcés will participate in the panel “How Platforms Compete: Market Definition and Direct Evidence,” discussing issues relating to market definition and competitive effects evidence in the context of digital platforms. For more information, please visit the AAI website.
