Kevin Neels Presents on Rail Tank Car Safety at NTSB Roundtable Discussion

Brattle Principal Kevin Neels will present at the National Transportation Safety Board’s (NTSB) Roundtable Discussion, “A Dialogue on What’s Next in Rail Tank Car Safety,” taking place July 13, 2016 in Washington, DC.

The event aims to help the NTSB better understand issues facing implementation of the Fast Act requirements. Additionally, the discussion will provide a deeper understanding of the logistics of replacing the existing tank car fleet to transport flammable materials, as well as how government and industry can overcome factors that could impede timely implementation of the new tank car rules.

The NTSB’s Office of Railroad, Pipeline, and Hazardous Materials Investigations staff has been working to investigate a number of accidents involving the transport of flammable liquids by rail tank car. The information discussed during this roundtable will significantly further their work, and may lead to additional safety recommendations.
