Neil Lessem Presents at Energy Consumers Australia Foresighting Forum

Brattle Senior Associate Neil Lessem presented at the Energy Consumers Australia (ECA) Foresighting Forum, “Take Charge: Shifting Power to Consumers in the Using, Making and Trading of Energy,” which took place February 28-March 1, 2018 in Sydney, Australia.

The event brought together senior representatives from across the energy sector to tackle issues affecting consumers and small businesses. The event explored the opportunities and challenges for consumers to manage their energy bills, as well as the policies and reforms that will be necessary to make energy affordable and reliable.

Dr. Lessem presented during the panel discussion “Using Energy Efficiently – Services, Programs, and Tools.” His presentation, “Market-led Solutions and Innovations,” highlighted a few examples of the types of free conservation and peak load management programs that are being offered in competitive retail electricity marketing outside of Australia. Dr. Lessem also reviewed a program that was successful in a regulated market and discussed the challenges of implementing it in a competitive retail market.
