Principal Torben Voetmann to Serve as Faculty Member at Practising Law Institute Seminar on Finance for Lawyers

Brattle principal Torben Voetmann has been invited to serve as a faculty member at the Practising Law Institute’s (PLI) upcoming course, “Pocket MBA Summer 2014: Finance for Lawyers and Other Professionals,” taking place May 5 – 6, 2014 in San Francisco, CA.

The course will bring together transactional lawyers, litigators, and other advisors to discuss the financial, accounting, economic, and tax principles critical to successful law practices. Participants will learn: key factors shaping financial reporting; foundational finance, accounting, and economics terminology and principles; how to “navigate” and understand the basic financial statements; practical corporate finance concepts; the use of valuations in business transactions and fairness opinions, as well as in common claims and defenses in litigation; real world application of finance related concepts and principles in negotiating, structuring and closing business transactions; legal and accounting perspectives on securities fraud and financial accounting irregularities; and the state of internal corporate investigations.

Mr. Voetmann will co-present on “Using Financial Information in Business Transactions” on the first day of the program. The session will including a discussion of understanding financial ratios, determining value based upon these ratios, and the effect of these ratios on capital structure.
