Principals Bente Villadsen and Joe Wharton Present at National Association of Water Companies’ Water Policy Forum

Principals Bente Villadsen and Joe Wharton recently participated at the National Association of Water Companies’ (NAWC) Water Policy Forum, which took place December 2-4, 2013 in Austin, TX.

Drs. Villadsen and Wharton presented a session entitled “Capital Investment and Alternative Regulation,” which drew upon their recently published report summarizing the use of alternative regulatory mechanisms in the 50 U.S. states for the water, electricity and natural gas distribution industries. The report was also co-authored by Brattle Senior Policy and Marketing Analyst Heidi Bishop. The presentation also discussed credit agencies’ frequently positive views of such alternative regulatory mechanisms and the potential impact on credit metrics.

The NAWC Forum brought together regulatory and utility staff in the water utilities industry to explore capital markets’ view of the industry and how regulatory mechanisms can be used to ensure customer service in a changing environment.
