Brattle Consultants Author Article on Demand Response Programs in America for Public Utilities Fortnightly

Brattle Principal Ahmad Faruqui, Senior Associate Ryan Hledik, and Associate Sanem Sergici authored an article published in the January 2010 issue of Public Utilities Fortnightly. The article, “Rethinking Prices – The Changing Architecture of Demand Response in America,” discusses the ongoing debate over how large a role demand response (DR) can play in meeting America’s energy needs and what should be in the mix of programs in the DR portfolio. To address these questions, the authors present the key findings from a comprehensive assessment of the potential for DR that was submitted by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to Congress last year. They also summarize the latest findings from a variety of pilot programs have been conducted by individual utilities and states around the country.
