Global Arbitration Review (GAR), a leading resource on international arbitration news and intelligence, named The Brattle Group as one of the most active firms in expert witness services in the field of international arbitration. In this year’s analysis, which evaluates a two-year period of work, The Brattle Group is also recognized as having the second-largest average value of claims in the field at $956 million.

Brattle has been involved in matters related to international arbitration since the firm was formed in 1990. Over the course of the last two years, Brattle experts worked on 25 international arbitrations, many of which are related to expropriation, breach of contract, failed business transactions, auctions, and trade.

The GAR analysis highlights several of Brattle’s recent, notable engagements, including an ICC arbitration matter, which resulted in a €500 million award for the Brattle client. The publication also recognizes the work of Brattle Principal Carlos Lapuerta for his expert testimony on a breach of contract case on a natural gas supply in which the claimant was awarded $185 million plus interest.

Leveraging the methodology of the GAR30 rankings, the publication used “the hearing” as measure to determine how active a particular firm has been. To assess the number of hearings accumulated by a firm, the average value of those hearings, and the median value of those hearings, GAR surveyed law firms, which ensures the measures are third-party validated. However, they did rely on the firms who provide expert witness services to report the number of cross-examinations.
