Brattle Principal Kevin Neels Discusses Air Traffic Management Book for the Journal of the Transportation Research Forum

Kevin Neels, a principal in Brattle’s Washington, DC office, reviewed Managing the Skies, a new book on the aviation industry by Clinton V. Oster Jr. and John S. Strong, for the Fall 2009 issue of the Journal of the Transportation Research Forum.

In the book, the authors outline the basic challenges facing air traffic management organizations around the world, such as how to finance and implement new technologies and procedures needed to accommodate growing volumes of traffic while meeting increasingly stringent safety standards. They also discuss the key problems facing the Federal Aviation Administration using a number of case studies.

Mr. Neels, an expert with over 25 years of research and consulting experience within the aviation industry, gives the book a favorable review, stating that the authors “have done a wonderful job of explaining this sometimes arcane world to aviation professionals who want and/or need to know more about its inner workings” and calling the book “an important resource for anyone concerned about the future of aviation.” He recommends it to anyone looking to understand the debate over the modernization and reform of the air traffic control system.
