Brattle Senior Advisor Matthew Kahn Authors New Book on How Cities Will Adapt to Global Climate Change

Dr. Matthew Kahn, a senior advisor to The Brattle Group and a professor at the UCLA Institute of the Environment, the UCLA Department of Economics, and the UCLA Department of Public Policy, has authored a new book on how urban areas will adapt to rising global temperatures as a result of climate change.

The book, Climatopolis: How Our Cities Will Thrive in the Hotter Future, discusses the inevitably of global climate change and describes how basic capitalist ideas can help the world’s cities adapt. According to Dr. Kahn, an expert on the economics of the environment, capitalist growth and development are responsible for climate change, but it is the self-interested spirit of capitalism and free markets that will inspire some cities to anticipate and proactively respond to climate challenges.
