The Brattle Group Conducts Competitive Bidding Process for Non-Solar Alternative Energy Credits for Metropolitan Edison Company and Pennsylvania Electric Company

Economists at The Brattle Group will conduct a competitive bidding process to purchase Alternative Energy Credits (AECs) for Metropolitan Edison Company (Met-Ed) and Pennsylvania Electric Company (Penelec). Met-Ed and Penelec supply power to a portion of their non shopping residential customers. The Companies are required to purchase AECs to meet Pennsylvania’s Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards (AEPS) requirements for this power supply. Met-Ed and Penelec will each procure approximately 90,000 Tier I and 150,000 Tier II AECs. Costs to obtain the AECs to meet the requirements of Pennsylvania’s Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards will be reflected in residential customer bills later in 2012. More information is available at the RFP website. Brattle is currently involved in managing several RFP and auction processes for utilities, municipal power providers, electric power cooperatives, and transmission owners.
