The Brattle Group’s core values of respect and integrity drive the firm’s commitment to a fair, impartial, and fact-driven judicial system. Pro bono projects are a critical component of employing these ideals in our work, and they bring our expertise to under-served communities. We believe in the importance of civic involvement and using our consulting skills to help resolve important social and economic issues.

We partner with pro bono committees at leading law firms as well as nonprofits such as the ACLU, the NAACP, and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law to provide expert testimony, reports, economic analyses, and data management. Consultants from across offices, practice areas, and levels work closely together to deliver clear insights that help address important social issues.

Examples of recent pro bono engagements include:

  • Estimating the negative economic impact of a policy proposal that would delay paths to citizenship of legal permanent residents who have enlisted in the military.
  • Investigating the extent of increased travel costs faced by African American voters due to Texas voter identification laws.
  • Analyzing the prevalence of poverty-related incarcerations to assist in identifying potential plaintiffs in a class-action suit against poverty-related incarcerations.
  • Demonstrating the inverse relationship between police budgets and instances of police pursuit of civil asset forfeitures.
