IN MEMORIAM
It is with profound sadness that we note the passing of Dr. Jarig van Sinderen in September 2020. Jarig was a valued friend and colleague who will be dearly missed. His family has created an In Memoriam page, where those who knew him are invited to share memories or anecdotes.
Dr. van Sinderen is Professor of Economic Policy at the Erasmus School of Economics (ESE) of Erasmus University Rotterdam.
Dr. van Sinderen specializes in research on antitrust and competition issues. In particular, he studies the optimal regulation of state-regulated corporations, including the capital structure and the applications and proper definitions of weighted average cost of capital (WACC). He is also an expert on evidence-based policies and on impact analysis especially of competition and regulation policies. Dr. van Sinderen is a member of the Erasmus Competition and Regulation institute (ECRi), an informal network of researchers employed at the ESE. He has authored over 50 publications on economic and competition topics.
Dr. van Sinderen gained extensive experience as Chief Economist of the Dutch Authority for Consumers and Markets and as Deputy Director-General of Statistics Netherlands. He was employed at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Environment of the Netherlands for nearly 20 years.
