Brattle Principal Johannes Pfeifenberger will present at the 6th annual Electric Reliability Council of Texas’ (ERCOT) Market Summit, taking place February 27 to March 1, 2018 in Austin, TX.

The event gathers policymakers and utility, solar, wind, and other executives to examine the proposed new market rules and economic drivers, and assess the potential impacts of an anticipated upsurge in solar capacity.

Mr. Pfeifenberger will present during the panel discussion “Perspectives on ERCOT Market Reform.” Panelists will explore market solutions to mitigate the impacts of low prices on future reliability. In addition, they will address a number of questions, including:

  • Will the proposed changes to the ORDC, the addition of transmission line marginal loss charges, and multi-interval real-time dispatch increase the value and compensation of incumbent generation enough to keep needed assets in the market?
  • Will revamping the congestion management scheme in ERCOT create better synergies between generation and transmission planning?
  • What lessons can be learned in other organized markets currently struggling with balancing the addition of wind and solar with retaining firming resources?
