Brattle consultants were invited to present a half-day workshop on the growth of demand response technology in the electric utility industry before the Energy Regulatory Commission of Thailand (ERC), along with the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, the Provincial Electricity Authority, and the PTT delegation. The workshop took place July 16, 2014 at EnerNOC’s Boston headquarters.
The workshop featured a presentation by Ann Berwick, Chair of the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities. Ms. Berwick presented on the Massachusetts Grid Modernization Plan, a program she has led to help modernize the state’s electric utility grid system. She spoke on the policy and the requirements that Massachusetts utilities must meet.
Brattle principal Ahmad Faruqui presented on “Price-Enabled Demand Response,” and principal Romkaew Broehm and senior associate Mariko Geronimo spoke on “Electric Utility Integrated Resource Planning and Demand-Side Resources.” To conclude the workshop, principal Bente Villadsen presented on “Decoupling in the U.S. and Its Impact on Cost of Capital and Profit.” Dr. Villadsen’s presentation discussed decoupling and the use of this mechanism in the U.S., as well as the impact of this metric on cost of capital.
