Kathleen Spees Presents on Energy Resource Planning at Legislative Summit

Brattle Principal Kathleen Spees spoke at the National Conference of State Legislatures 2019 Legislative Summit on August 4 in Nashville, TN.

Dr. Spees discussed rethinking system needs in a future that is dominated by renewable energy sources, new technology, and engaged consumers. According to her presentation, the traditional integrated resource plan (IRP) model is not equipped to address the major drivers that are reshaping the electricity grid. The next generation of IRPs may need to be adjusted to be able to support large-scale electrification, redefine reliability needs, enable the use of new technology, and enhance competitive procurement.
