Brattle Economist Frank Graves to Present at 2013 MIT Energy Conference

Brattle principal Frank Graves and Gilbert Metcalf, a Brattle academic advisor and Professor of Economics at Tufts University, will present at the 2013 MIT Energy Conference, taking place March 1-2, 2013 in Boston, MA.

The annual conference brings together thought leaders in industry, academia, government, and finance to deliver critical knowledge and independent analysis on emerging trends in energy technologies, policies, and markets. The 2013 conference theme, “From Idea to Impact – Collaborating to Meet Global Energy Challenges,” will investigate how energy innovation can move from idea to impact through discussions on the greatest challenges currently facing the energy industry.

Mr. Graves will serve as a panelist during the session, “A New Way of Thinking: Innovation in the Nuclear Industry.” The panel will explore how the challenging environment of nuclear energy post-Fukushima also provides an opportunity for the development of innovative new technologies that could aid in increasing safety and lowering costs. These emerging technologies, their potential for rapid deployment, and the political and economic implications of wide-scale adoption will be discussed.

Dr. Metcalf will present during the panel session, “Breaking the Climate Stalemate,” which will highlight recent research on climate change, and identify new ideas to help spur international and domestic efforts to produce meaningful climate policies.
