Brattle Principal Serena Hesmondhalgh to Present at Conference Addressing Antitrust and Regulatory Compliance Issues for the Energy Sector

Serena Hesmondhalgh, a principal based in Brattle’s London office, will be speaking at the upcoming conference, “Commercial Strategies to Manage Antitrust and Regulatory Risks in the Energy Sector,” taking place January 25-26, 2012 in Munich, Germany. Amid the recent implementation of regulation by the European Commission to combat anti-competitive behavior among energy companies, including the Regulation on Energy Market Integrity and Transparency (REMIT), there has been increased uncertainty surrounding the scope and interpretation of the new legislation as well as the priority of enforcement activity by the Commission. The two-day conference will feature experts from regulators, competition authorities, and energy companies to discuss effective antitrust and regulatory compliance strategies for the electric and natural gas sectors to mitigate the consequences surrounding anti-competitive behavior. Dr. Hesmondhalgh will present during the session, “Assessing Antitrust and Regulatory Risks in Gas and Electricity Contracts.” She will explain to what extent long-term contracts can be problematic under antitrust and regulatory law as well as recent EU investigations relating to anti-competitive clauses in gas supply contracts.
