Brattle Principals Ahmad Faruqui and Gregory Duncan to Speak at CRRI’s 23rd Annual Western Conference

Dr. Ahmad Faruqui and Dr. Gregory Duncan, principals in The Brattle Group’s San Francisco office, will speak at Rutgers University’s Center for Research in Regulated Industries (CRRI) 23rd Annual Western Conference taking place June 23-25, 2010 in Monterey, California. The conference will be an advanced workshop on regulation and competition in network industries, with a focus on issues such as deregulation, market structure, capacity and reliability, and demand response. Dr. Faruqui’s session, “Does Dynamic Pricing Work in a Moderate Climate? Experimental Evidence from New England,” will present an analysis of Connecticut Light & Power Company’s dynamic pricing experiment carried out in summer 2009, the Plan-It Wise Energy Pilot. Dr. Faruqui will describe the study’s findings, including the impacts of critical-peak pricing and peak-time rebates on peak demand, in addition to the statistical significance of elasticities of substitution. Dr. Duncan will speak on “A General Approach to Determining Right-of-Way Fees in Thin Markets.” He will discuss issues of property owner compensation and fair market value, as well as the equivalency of Nash and Shapley value bargaining solutions to those methods proposed by Salant.
