Joshua Gans to Participate in FTC Conference on the “Sharing” Economy

Brattle academic advisor Joshua Gans will present at the upcoming Federal Trade Commission (FTC) event, “The ‘Sharing’ Economy: Issues Facing Platforms, Participants, and Regulators,” taking place June 9, 2015 in Washington, DC.

The FTC event will explore issues relating to the emergence of the “sharing” economy, or peer-to-peer platforms, and the economic activity stimulated by these platforms. Topics will include competition and consumer protection, and whether existing regulatory frameworks can effectively respond to sharing economy business models while maintaining appropriate levels of competition and consumer protection.

Dr. Gans will participate on the panel discussion, “Sharing Economy Platforms: Market Design and Market Structure.”
