Nobel Laureate and Brattle Principal Daniel McFadden Appointed Presidential Professor at the University of Southern California

The Brattle Group congratulates principal Daniel McFadden for his appointment as Presidential Professor of Health Economics at the University of Southern California (USC). According to USC, the title of Presidential Professor is a rare honor bestowed to an individual who combines the highest academic recognition with landmark contributions to society. Dr. McFadden has been affiliated with The Brattle Group since 1994, first as a senior advisor to the firm and then as a principal. He works closely with a number of academic and industry experts to provide clients with testimony and consulting services on damages, antitrust liability, intellectual property matters, and environmental litigation and regulation. In 2000, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, together with James Heckman, for theory and methods he developed that are widely used in the statistical analysis of individual and household behavior, specifically in the area of discrete choice analysis. He is currently professor emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley, and has held academic appointments at Yale University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Chicago, and other leading universities. As Presidential Professor at USC, Dr. McFadden will hold joint appointments at the USC School of Policy, Planning, and Development and the Department of Economics at USC College. In this role, he will examine fundamental problems facing the health care sector, specifically how consumers make choices about health insurance and medical services.
