The Brattle Group assisted the fertilizer company Agrium Inc. to obtain regulatory approval in its $36 billion merger with Potash Corporation, forming the world’s largest crop nutrient company.

The merger of equals involved several agricultural and crop fertilizer products, including potash, nitrogen, and phosphate, and affected multiple jurisdictions globally, including Canada, the United States, China, and India. Blake Cassels & Graydon, counsel for Agrium, retained Brattle to perform competitive effects and efficiencies analysis and present our findings for regulatory review. The merger cleared with minimal divestiture requirements by the Canadian Competition Bureau, as well as in the United States, China, and India.
