Who’s Who Legal has recognized three Brattle principals as thought leaders in their WWL Thought Leaders: Arbitration 2020 list: M. Alexis Maniatis, Carlos Lapuerta, and Richard Caldwell. Experts were selected for their excellence across a wide range of matters, including valuation, quantum analyses, financial consulting, and testifying on commercial and contractual disputes.
Principal M. Alexis Maniatis has more than 30 years of experience applying economics, accounting, and corporate finance to estimate commercial damages and to value assets and businesses. He provides consulting and expert witness testimony and advises clients on valuation and damages issues in expropriations, contract disputes, competition-related litigation, asset and merger transactions, and regulatory proceedings on matters related to a variety of industries across the globe. He has submitted expert reports and testified on damages issues in proceedings before federal, state, and bankruptcy courts, and before international and domestic arbitration panels.
Principal Carlos Lapuerta is an expert in economic analysis and financial valuation, which he frequently applies to estimate damages in international arbitration proceedings. Mr. Lapuerta has served as an expert witness in numerous international arbitration proceedings, including many disputes between investors and sovereign states. He offers particular experience in the analysis of investments and contracts in the energy sector, and has provided testimony in several arbitration proceedings concerning the prices in long-term energy contracts, including natural gas, coal, electricity, and oil.
Principal Richard Caldwell is an economics and financial expert who values businesses and financial instruments across a range of industries – including mining, banking, and telecoms – in a range of settings. Mr. Caldwell has testified on damages and financial issues in dozens of international arbitrations. He has testified before tribunals set up under the rules of the Energy Charter Treaty, London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), Dutch law, and Swiss law.
