Brattle Principal Dr. Peter Fox-Penner recently coauthored an article in the November 2025 issue of Fortnightly Magazine on alternative paths to affordable electricity other than supply additions.

Electricity demand continues to grow rapidly in the developed world, presenting challenges for all industry stakeholders, and a variety of clean supply and demand resources will be needed to meet demand, reduce emissions, and maintain affordability. Drawing on insights outlined in a recent Brattle whitepaper, Dr. Fox-Penner and his coauthor highlight how clean capital efficiency – leveraging AI-enhanced technology to drive higher efficiency and utilization of existing and new system assets – can help deliver more services with fewer costs. Clean capital efficiency will also continue to make the electric system clean by managing demand growth and integrating more renewable energy sources.
