Ms. Northrup specializes in market participation and design questions, with a focus on maximizing the value of energy storage and distributed energy resources (DERs).
She has modeled energy storage market participation in day-ahead and real-time energy and ancillary service markets across PJM, SPP, ERCOT, and CAISO. Ms. Northrup’s analyses have evaluated the net revenue potential of storage assets under different market participation strategies, assessed storage performance during capacity market events, examined the role of storage in highly congested grid areas, and optimized participation for DERs with unique operational constraints. Her work has supported clients in identifying operational requirements for using storage and DERs to capture both market revenues and transmission and distribution deferral value simultaneously.
Ms. Northrup also brings to client engagements expertise in wholesale market and utility program design, with a focus on developing price signals that reflect the value to buyers while properly incentivizing the desired customer behavior. This work has included the design of DER programs, a renewable energy and renewable energy certificate (REC) exchange, and a capacity market clearing engine.
