Dr. Hinchey specializes in the empirical analysis of complex economics and finance-related matters in the energy industry.
She has submitted expert testimony before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and frequently provides analysis and litigation support in legal, regulatory, and arbitration settings in the US, Canada, and internationally.
Dr. Hinchey has expertise in evaluating matters related to regulatory economics, such as analyzing the rates charged by oil and other petroleum products pipelines and the business risks of natural gas pipelines. Additionally, she has a wide range of experience estimating damages in commercial disputes and in evaluating oil, natural gas, and LNG contracts, including long-term purchase and sales agreements and pipeline transportation contracts.
She also has expertise in the analysis of competition and market manipulation issues in the energy industry. Dr. Hinchey’s work in antitrust and competition matters includes estimating long-run marginal costs, evaluating the level of concentration in markets, and analyzing the competitive effects of potential mergers. Her market manipulation expertise includes evaluating alleged manipulations of benchmark prices in the natural gas industry.
Dr. Hinchey’s research has been published in academic journals and by the popular press. She has spoken and moderated panels at several academic conferences. As a graduate student, she was affiliated with the Baker Institute’s Center for Energy Studies, and her research received best student paper awards at multiple academic conferences.
