Professor Taylor is a Distinguished Professor of Accounting at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Business School and Deputy Chair of the Australian Accounting Standards Board.

With extensive governance and advisory experience, Professor Taylor has provided expert advice and testimony in matters involving valuation, financial reporting, disclosure, and accounting standards. His experience includes detailed analysis of compliance with accounting standards, independent assessment of expert valuations, and the impact of non-disclosure on firm value.

Professor Taylor has provided expert testimony in Australia and Asia and recently provided an expert assessment for the Supreme Court of New Zealand (SkyCity v. Macquarie Bank). Other engagements have included work for the Australian Taxation Office and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), as well as analysis of takeover offers and allegations of market manipulation.

In addition to several leadership roles at UTS, Professor Taylor has held board and audit committee roles with the Capital Markets Co-Operative Research Center, Securities Industry Research Centre of Asia-Pacific (SIRCA), and the Rozetta Institute.

Professor Taylor’s research focuses on financial reporting, valuation, audit quality, and corporate disclosure. His work has been published in leading journals, including The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Review of Accounting Studies, Contemporary Accounting Research, and Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. He has led and contributed to major research initiatives, including a statutory assessment of Australia’s Continuous Disclosure regime, and research programs supported by the Australian Research Council examining financial reporting quality and the role of accounting information in investment decisions.

He is a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia and currently serves as its Director and Treasurer. In 2023, Professor Taylor was inducted into the Australian Accounting Hall of Fame and received the Outstanding Contribution to Accounting and Finance Practice Award from the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand.
