A recent New York Times article cites findings from a May 2023 Brattle report that explores the cost and ability to serve critical resource adequacy needs from an emerging resource: virtual power plants (VPPs).

The article, “Vermont Utility Plans to End Outages by Giving Customers Batteries,” highlights the report finding that utilities could save as much as $35 billion a year by investing in distributed generation such as rooftop solar and residential battery energy storage to increase their supply of energy.
