While tech giants are racing to build data centers and expand the AI landscape, the US’s aging electrical grid may struggle to keep up with the surge in energy needs, leaving US households at risk of footing the bill for additional costs. Mr. Hledik raised the policy question, “How do we create the conditions so that everyone is a winner in this situation, and not a case where you have some winners and then the local community,” and noted that “some utilities companies are already stepping in to prevent data center demand from affecting residents.”
