Brattle Experts Author Report on Strategies to Support Load Growth and Public Policy Goals
Prepared for the Clean Air Task Force (CATF)
A newly released report, Optimizing Grid Infrastructure and Proactive Planning to Support Load Growth and Public Policy Goals, prepared for the Clean Air Task Force (CATF), presents recommendations and case studies for adding new loads and necessary new generation to the power system more quickly and cost-effectively.
To better meet reemerging rapid load growth, mitigate affordability concerns, and boost the efficiency of capital deployment, the report offers four sets of recommendations:
- Maximize the value of the existing power system, including demand-side resources
- Cost-effectively accelerate the grid connection of new loads and resources
- Implement proactive planning and procurement processes to identify flexible, least-regrets grid solutions
- Introduce targeted affordability measures to reduce risks to and protect existing customers
It also identifies actions that can be taken by individual stakeholders, which will require close collaboration between policy makers, regulators, and industry.
The report was prepared by Brattle Principals Johannes Pfeifenberger and Ryan Hledik, Managing Energy Associate Long Lam, Energy Research Associate Kailin Graham, and Senior Energy Analyst Natalie Northrup.
