Frank Graves Discusses Recent Brattle Report on Wildfire Financial Risks for Utilities on USEA Power Sector Podcast
Principal Frank Graves recently joined an episode of the USEA Power Sector Podcast, produced by the United States Energy Association (USEA), to discuss the growing challenges utilities, regulators, and customers face as wildfires become more frequent and severe – and what can be done to better mitigate these risks.
Mr. Graves shared findings from Brattle’s recent whitepaper, “Wildfire Financial Risks for Utilities: Proactive Management, Regulatory Policy, and Strategy Recommendations,” which outlines a proposed approach for regulated investor-owned utilities (IOUs) and other stakeholders to manage risk equitably. He noted that while steps can be taken to reduce the likelihood of ignition, wildfires cannot be fully prevented and weather-driven impacts remain uncontrollable – underscoring the need for a mechanism to address the residual risk that even the best prevention plans cannot eliminate.
