Brattle principal Bruce Tsuchida recently authored an article that was published in the February 2015 issue of North American Wind Power. The article, “What the Islands Can Teach Us About Hybrid Energy,” discusses how adopting hybrid systems such as those found in the Caribbean islands can help accommodate more renewable resources while also increasing grid resiliency.

Mr. Tsuchida describes how a hybrid energy system could prove to be valuable for isolated areas, many of which rely on oil for power generation. The integration of renewable resources such as wind and solar with low operational costs has proven to be a viable alternative to the high power costs of fuel-oil consumption. Other benefits of integrating renewables are the lower emissions produced and greater energy independence.

Mr. Tsuchida’s article can be read in its entirety here.
