Brattle senior associate Pavitra Kumar and Brattle principal Torben Voetmann recently published an article in Event Study Tools, which illustrates the use of traditional and intraday event studies in securities litigation.

Dr. Kumar and Dr. Voetmann point out how an event study, analysis used to determine the effects of economic events on security prices, can influence court decisions. The article outlines the procedures of conducting a traditional event study, along with the factors experts should consider throughout the process. In addition, intraday event studies are discussed to show how the data differs from the data found in a traditional event study.

The Brattle authors suggest that the correct application of event study methodology be a focal point in upcoming securities litigation.
