Brattle principals Kevin Neels and Marc Chupka presented at the Transportation Research Board’s (TRB) 92nd Annual Meeting, which took place January 13-17, 2013 in Washington, DC. The TRB Annual Meeting featured more than 4,000 presentations in nearly 750 sessions and workshops addressing topics of interest covering all modes of transportation. The annual program attracts transportation professionals from around the world representing a wide range of backgrounds, including policy makers, administrators, researchers, and representatives of government, industry, and academic institutions. Dr. Neels served as a moderator during the session, “Impacts of Changing Energy Markets on the Railroad Industry.” The session explored the near- and long-term implications of significant new developments in the energy markets for the railroad industry, including new production techniques and the development of alternative fuel supplies. The session featured a presentation by Mr. Chupka, who spoke on “Natural Gas Price & Environmental Regulation: Effect on Utility Coal Consumption.” Mr. Chupka was assisted in preparing the presentation by Brattle principal Metin Celebi and research analysts Charles Russell and Quincy Xuefeng Liao.
