In a billion-dollar commercial arbitration, Swiss company New Stream Trading accused Sberbank of causing the bankruptcy of the Antipinsky Oil Refinery, which resulted in the refinery defaulting on its contracts with claimants. Sberbank, the largest investment bank in Russia, disputed these claims, alleging that the mismanagement of the previous owner, Dmitry Mazurov, caused the bankruptcy of the refinery. Brattle worked on behalf of New Stream Trading, providing expert testimony that established that neither New Stream Trading nor Mr. Mazurov were responsible for the bankruptcy. The tribunal ultimately agreed, discharging New Stream Trading’s liability to Sberbank.
