Principal Ryan Hledik shared his perspective on rising electricity rates and customer costs in several recent interviews. His comments referenced analysis in a Berkeley Lab and Brattle report released on October 17, 2025, regarding trends in electricity prices across the US.

In a “PBS News Hour” interview on October 28, Mr. Hledik spoke with anchor John Yang about the explosive growth in demand for power from data centers. Mr. Hledik discussed the effect on rates that can result from this load growth, noting that the issue is highly nuanced and that there are certain conditions under which the outcome could benefit consumers. He also noted the importance of the investment needed in distribution and transmission infrastructure in many parts of the country, and the relationship between climate change, renewable energy deployment, and electricity rates.

In a New York Times article published on October 30, “Why the Price of Electricity Is Spiking Around the Country,” Mr. Hledik explained that factors driving electricity rates are complex and depend on location.

The Berkeley Lab report has been widely referenced, including in The Economist, The Washington Post, Inside Climate News, Newsmax, RTO Insider, Utility Dive, and PV Magazine
